IN SITU ASSESSMENT OF ACCESS OF CORN CREOLE COLLECTED IN THE BRAZILIAN AMAZON REGION
Abstract
In order to study the genetic variability of maize germplasm were evaluated in Porto Velho-RO and Paragominas-PA, 256 accessions collected in the Amazon region, using an experimental design in simple lattice 16 x 16, with a witness in each block and two replications in each location. The plots consisted of two rows spaced five meters of 0.90m with five plants per meter after thinning. We determined the genetic distances between accessions using morphological and based on the nearest neighbor method characters. Homogeneous groups were formed for the types of gear teeth, hard, popcorn, and those semi chalky endosperm. The dissimilarity between accessions was determined by Euclidean distance taking the average characteristics of male and female flowering, plant height and ear, prolificacy, ear weight and grain length and diameter shank, length and width of grain. The results indicated the existence of a large phenotypic variability for all the traits studied, being able to select germplasm with promising attributes for both improvement and for training of new populations and new compounds. The accesses were more adapted Paragominas-PA than in Porto Velho, RO, where they could best express their morphological characteristics, especially regarding its production potential in order that they were collected in the Amazon region specifically in the states of Rondonia and Para.Downloads
