Soybean response, with and without lipoxygenases suppression, to mechanical injuries of the brown stink bug
Abstract
The effect of the genetic elimination of lipoxygenases in soybean plants aiming to reduce beany flavor was verified in the induction of defense, when the plant is infested with E. heros herbivore or mechanically injured by comparison with plants with regular genotype. The enzymatic activity of the lipoxygenase pool in the regular genotype was higher in plants with mechanical injuries in the grains, if compared to the control without injuries after 8 hours. In the triple null genotype, the enzyme activity was lower in plants infested with the herbivore. The results indicate the importance of the lipoxygenase isoenzymes presence in soybean response to herbivore attack and mechanical injury, and, additionally, the importance of the enzyme presence in signaling systemic injuries, which may be the reason soybeans are more susceptible to herbivore infestation.
