Abstract

This paper analyzed the markets of medicines and phyto linking them with the intellectual protection of scientific research in the area, as well as the performance of the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation in protection technologies derived from Brazilian biodiversity. The data showed that only a small portion of 22% of all species of plants and animals on the planet has been scientifically studied with respect to their potential for production of drugs, plant extracts, insecticides, natural dyes, and derivatives. Furthermore, it was observed that using the traditional knowledge and Indian communities can obtain a reduction in costs and time for obtaining scientific technological research for a new drug product. Through the analysis of protected technologies in the area, there was a strong trend of Brazilian biodiversity establish itself as a strategic factor in the context of the growing demand for natural products, highlighting the phytomedicines and cosmetics. The study concluded that to do justice to the expectations, it is necessary the development of technological strategies of a commercial nature that focus on closing the cycle of innovation, fostering the creation of bridges between research and the market. In this sense it is important to stimulate the protectionist culture of research results and the valuation of patents as an indicator of productivity. The creation of departments / sectors or technological core intellectual property in universities and research centers in six important to strengthen the system of patenting.
