Abstract
This paper analyzed the markets of medicines and phyto linking them with the intellectual protection of scientific research in the area, as well as the performance of the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation in protection technologies derived from Brazilian biodiversity. The data showed that only a small portion of 22% of all species of plants and animals on the planet has been scientifically studied with respect to their potential for production of drugs, plant extracts, insecticides, natural dyes, and derivatives. Through the analysis of protected technologies in the area, there was a strong trend of Brazilian biodiversity establish itself as a strategic factor in the context of the growing demand for natural products, highlighting the phytomedicines and cosmetics. The study concluded that to do justice to the expectations, it is necessary the development of technological strategies of a commercial nature that focus on closing the cycle of innovation, fostering the creation of bridges between research and the market.
