Abstract

Systems Albumin (ALB) and phosphogluconate dehydrogenase (PGD) were studied in 317 animals. The alleles B ALB and ALB D were detected among water buffaloes in three combinations (ALB BB, BD ALB and ALB DD). In Nellore, two alleles (A and ALB ALB C) were observed in combinations: AA ALB, ALB ALB AC and CC. Two variants of phosphogluconate dehydrogenase (PGD PGD A and C) were detected in water buffaloes in two phenotypic combinations: AA and PGD PGD AC. In Nellore, the allele was only observed PGD B. subpopulations of each of the four races were in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium, but the contingency analysis indicates the loci of heterogeneity of ALB in Murrah and PGD in the Mediterranean race. Such genetic heterogeneity between subpopulations can be explained by the relatively small population size in each herd, crossing structure, genetic drift or selection. In the specific case of the Mediterranean race, may also be due to the founder effect, probably caused by the monomorphism farms in Santa Terezinha and Miritueira and polymorphism in the EMBRAPA.
