Abstract

Measuring dendrometrias variables such as height (commercial and total), diameter and volume constitutes a basic and fundamental activity in forest inventory work. This work aims to obtain real measures of volumetric variables at a relatively low cost, reconciling them with the activities of collecting seeds, without the need to cut down the trees. 77 adult reproductive individuals, distributed in several decametric classes, belonging to seven native tree species occurring in the Atlantic Forest of eastern Minas Gerais state, Brazil were sampled. The hypsometric relation to all of the species showed a higher setting for individuals with small to medium diameters and showed a weak tendency to underestimate the heights of the trees in the class of 100 cm of CAP. Among the models tested to estimate the commercial height equations equation was selected No. 6 hc = (c / bo + b1 * c) 2, by presenting a higher coefficient of determination (R2 = 0.93), a lower standard error estimates (Syx = 3.35 m) and better graphical distribution of residuals. Also, if timed-time spent in measuring circumferences along the trunk, including the cleaning of the shaft, thus obtaining a relevant measure of the importance of forest inventory cost component.
